About

I'm Claire Hancox - a qualified and accredited coach, and former Depute Headteacher, with thirty years experience in Scottish education.

I spent years designing and championing coaching in schools. I believed in it, trained in it, and worked hard to make it happen. And I watched most of it not translate into everyday practice.

It was only through my own experience of coaching and being coached that I began to understand why - and what might actually work instead.

I realised that the coaching I was trying to embed was too formal, too structured, and too separate from the flow of daily leadership. It didn’t match the pace or complexity of school life.

What does work is helping leaders bring a coaching stance into the conversations they’re already having - the corridor check‑ins, the moments after a difficult lesson, the quick discussions where clarity or perspective could make all the difference

That's what this work is built on. Not a theory about what schools should do, but thirty years of working in them, and an honest reckoning with what does and doesn't change practice.
